Black cumin has been valued in the Orient for approximately 3,500 years, both as a spice and for its traditional uses, and thus deserves the title “The Gold of the Pharaohs.” However, black cumin is neither related to caraway nor cumin; the seeds also differ significantly in shape and taste. Virgin black cumin oil is gently cold-pressed from high-quality black cumin seeds (Nigella sativa) and filtered only once. The golden-brown oil has a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids—for example, the omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid, with a content of 53 g per 100 ml. Replacing saturated fatty acids with polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet contributes to maintaining normal blood cholesterol levels.
The pungent and spicy black cumin seed oil pairs very well with oriental dishes, flatbread, chickpeas, cheese, and beans. To protect its valuable ingredients, it should definitely not be heated, but rather used cold. Black cumin seed oil is also an important ingredient in natural cosmetics and is traditionally used in skin and hair care. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.
